i just tried to enable UPS.exe in windows services via services.msc and windows is giving me the error:

~! Could not start the Uninterruptible Power Supply service on Local Computer.
~! Error 2481: The UPS service is not configured correctly.

i DO have my UPS's program: PowerChute installed but it gave me a small popup saying i do not have hibernation enabled and that i will lose my work in case of a power loss and shutdown.

i was wondering how i can fix either that UPS.exe startup problem and how to properly configure my power loss configurations in windows.

UPS: APC BX1300LCD
OS: Windows XP Sp2

have you gone to the "power" button in your control panel and checked things out there? i have an apc ups as well and recently had to reinstall my os and got a hibernation not enabled message as well, but it went away upon reboot and took care of itself. i use powerchute to control my apc..not windows. is it possible you don't have enough room on your hd for hibernation to automatically enable? windows will select a value for this..for example, my windows wants 2.5 gigs out of my 9 gig left on the os for hibernation..if i was able to change that value, not sure that the program and ups would work properly.

i definately have room on my HDD for any hibernation, and PowerChute gives me a popup saying that i don't have hibernation enabled in case of auto-shut down via powerchute & power outtage.

i think powerchute only does auto-shutdown... dunno how i'd get it to hibernate instead of shutdown in case power goes out

hmmm.just looked at my powerchute and there's an option there that says disable all alarms when the pc is off or hibernated. the 2 power options i have in it are:

preserve battery power-shutdown my computer when it's been on for x minutes.

and...

keep my computer on as long as possible- use this option to extend power when on battery power.

i choose 1 as if i'm not home and powers out, won't do much good and potentially cause damage, i think.

it's a back ups es 750 model. powerchut is personal edition version 2.

have you tried to reinstall your powerchute software?

i have the same options as you... i have it on option 1 (5 minutes) also... but i have no option to set it to hibernate if power is out..
