Cannot boot up after updating bios for IS7-E

I was helping my friend update his bios. I tried updating to the newest bios first, but it wouldnt boot up to windows xp. So i went try to update it with revision 12 and after i updated it, the computer wouldnt boot up. I tried flashing by removing battery and using cmos jumpers. Refitted the ram and replugged in the IDE cables. The monitor shows up as nothing; the monitor led stays amber. All fans are spinning, and theres even a beep while it is booting. Any one have any ideas?

Drew,
I don't know what mb your working with but for techs that is the simple equation leading to the kiss of death! If you have flashed the wrong bios then that board is absolutely useless! I have worked around such issues by using another identical mb and doing a hot flash of the bios chip but it's a very iffy proposition!

This doesn't sound quite so terminal - the fact that it beeps (like a normal OK beep - right?) suggests that the machine is booting just not outputing anything to the screen. Listen carefully to see if the hard disc sounds like it's seeking and check the hd activity led on the front (this will generally only work if the drive is IDE type not SATA) although on 2nd thoughts, if you have cleared the CMOS ram you may not be able to boot until cleared any error condition such as incorrect CPU type.......

Double check your monitor connections and possibly try another monitor on the PC or the monitor on another PC.

hope this helps

Yeah we tried switching monitors and it still doesn't work. I'm sure that bios is for his monitor but I'm thinking we might need to send the bios chip back to abit to get it flashed.

Just don't want you chasing the wrong solution, if you get the beep it does suggest the board is passing POST which would tend not to indicate a bad flash

good luck

When we press the shutdown button after a good boot, it shutdowns immediately. Right now we have to hold onto the power down button for 5 secs before it shutdowns. I dont think its getting to POST, so we're really stumped right now
