Cannot boot from SSD being the ONLY hard drive

Okay, here's my issue. Please bear with me in this, and I promise I will try and keep it short and simple.

Originally had a WD 500GB hard drive set as my boot drive with Win 7 64. Then came the wonderful day that I got my SDD 🙂 So, I loaded Win7 on it as well. Now I have the option of which hard drive I want to boot from with the SDD being the first option...which is now what I always boot from. The 500GB is mainly for storage now, including my games. I want to reformat that hard drive, and after I back it up, I ONLY want my media on it.

However, the problem is this. When I unplug it from the motherboard, my computer will not boot into Windows at all, and I get error. Haven't done it in a while, so not 100% sure WHAT the error message is, but there HAS to be a simple fix to this to where I can boot from the SDD when it is the only one plugged in.

System "specs" are in my sig and thanks for your help in advance.

Windows 7 is weird that it will install the bootloader on the secondary drive. Have your 500GB plugged in and use EasyBCD to edit the bootloader to be on your SSD and not the 500GB. Then you won't need the WD to boot anymore.

Well...the 500GB WAS the original (and only) drive, then added the SSD later on, so I guess by "default" the bootloader (is now) on the secondary. Thank you for the advice, I will give it a try now.

Actually...I dont even know why I want to do this, other than not having to pick which HD to boot from, and it's really not hat big of a deal because, the SDD is the first and all I have to do is hit enter (and not really even that anymore because I set it to only wait like 3 seconds before booting from SSD)

I probably won't be gaining that much space by reformatting just to put everything I have back onto it...I think I'm just being petty 🙂
