Cannot boot from bootable CD

Hello,

I was trying to install an image yesterday on to one of my computers. I loaded this bootable CD I have which loads a windows-like UI so I can run norton ghost and some other programs. I started Ghost and began loading the image. It said it would take about two hours and there was no cancel button so I just hit restart on the computer when it was about 2% into the process. After that, I cannot boot from the HD or from the CD. I tried putting in the windows XP cd and cannot boot from that either.

When it tries to boot from the CD, it says that the boot record is not found. Did I just destroy my HD, cd and image? because the image was on an external HD which is no longer recognized when I connect it to any computer. I find it hard to believe I destroyed the CD because you just can't do that, but why won't it boot from these bootable CDs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is the cd drive first in the boot order in the bios? I have seen mbs that only boot from what amounts to the lowest drive letter for an optical drive if there are more than one. Are you putting it in the same drive as before?

There is only 1 cd drive. yes it is the first in the boot order. it goes cd, floppy, hd. I also went manually into the boot menu and selected cd. It tries to boot from the cd each time but then it says boot record not found. is it possible because the image did not finish loading that the hd is now wiped out, including the boot record, and this is preventing the cd from booting aswell?
