Cannot access internet via ICS over LAN

Hi all,

I have a network of 3 PCs running winXP Pro and 2K with no probs. All sharing Internet using ICS and everything works fine.

I have just got an old Toshiba 480CDT notebook running WinME. I have connected it to my LAN with a new SMC8040TX 10/100 pcmcia card. The network access is fine and I get an IP address autoassigned.

Problem is I cannot access my CableModem connection on my network. I have tried manually configuring things and also using the wizards in ME - no joy cannot access the internet from the notebook.

Please help🙁

Addition:

When I try to run winipcfg I get an error message saying "Fatal Error - cannot read IP configuration"

have you tried manually putting in the settings...ICS isnt the most bug free thing in the world...ive ventured into weird anomolies myself from ICS. Try manually putting in the settings then checking back here if it doesnt work. make sure your ip information is all correct and if u have static dns addresses from your cable modem, try putting those in.

Thanks for the reply but I've tried manually configuring everything with no luck.

What does concern me is the inability to check my network settings with winipcfg/ipconfig/netstat.....

What protocol are your XP and 2k machines using? TCP/IP or NetBeui? If it's TCP/IP simply remove all other protocols, IPX/IPS, NetBeui, etc... until only TCP/IP is remaining on all machines. If you're using NetBeui then remove all protocols except TCP/IP and NetBeui on all machines making sure that all the clients ethernet adapters are bound to NetBeui.

I think by default 2k and XP come set to TCP/IP whereas 9x/ME come set as NetBeui. With such a small LAN I'm not going to make an argument as to which one you should use but you have to make sure they're all using the same one.

HTH
