Cannot access "HIDDEN" folders.... Help Please

I was using 2 Raptors in a RAID 0 Array and one of the drives died.
I had to reinstall XP Pro but on a single Raptor. I RMA'd the other and sold it after I got a new one back.

All my documents had been stored on a 3rd and seperate hard drive.
I had hidden a few folders on the 3rd hard drive by right clicking them and selecting properties and the checking the "Hidden" option

Now that I reinstalled XP Pro on the single Raptor I can no longer access the "Hidden" folders. I can see them, but I can not access them. I tried right clicking, going to properties and deselecting "hidden" but it gives an error saying "ACCESS DENIED"

I ran a HD scan which shows the drive is working perfectly.....
Any ideas or suggestions for getting access to these folders?

It sounds like you either set up encryption on those folders, or they are owned by a different user account than the one you are logged in with now, and the account you are using now does not have NTFS permission to view the contents.

Log in to the computer with an Administrator account (either the one you created when you installed Windows, or a separate one you create yourself while logged in as Administrator), then right-click on the folder(s), choose Properties, click on the Advanced button, and look for a check box labeled Encrypt contents to secure data. If that box is checked, then you will not be able to view the contents of that folder unless you happened to save the security key for the folders for the user that you encrypted them with on your old installation of Windows. If it is not checked, then the user account you are using probably just doesn't have permission to see the folders so you'll need to assign the correct permissions to your new user account on the Security tab of the Properties window for the folder(s) (you'll need to be logged in as Adminstrator to do this as well).

Thnx that fixed it. I was completely stumped on that one. I tried unhiding before in Safe Mode as the Admin but no go. Never bother to look at the tabs and realize that the second tab changes from Sharing to Security in Admin mode.

You helped make someones life a little bit easier! 😀
