after researching a little, i found out that 'Documents and Settings' subfolders and 'Program Files' folder is protected by WinXP

after looking at several 'how-to's' i came up with an idea, but it's not working, and will appreciate any help or 'smack-downs' on my idea :)

i'm trying to see those restricted folders on a desktop from a laptop. (both in a same LAN)

i disabled 'simple file sharing' on both machines.

'Desktop' (name D) has user of ABC password of 123

Laptop (name L) has user Admin.

is it possible to logon to 'D' from 'L' and use logon name of ABC and password of 123 to logon as the main user of Desktop (so i won't have to boggle with the security tab?)

the thing is, it's not asking me to input logon name and password. (i don't know how to enable that pop-up)

Map the drive, in any way you choose, there are many ways. Click and enter abc/123 under "connect using a different user name" in the appropriate space. That or you could just create an account on the remote box that your using on your local box and give it admin privileges on that remote machine. Either way will work however it might be easier to just go ahead and create the account and put it in the local admin group on the remote machine.
