Uninstalled spybot search and destroy -> and it worked...., both java.com and bbc.co.uk

until she went to her grocery shopping site monoprix.fr, and everything stopped working again...

Finally found the problem

I had installed peerblock and http was set to be blocked. When http was set to allowed, it all worked.

And it was actually my sister who found out that other people with peerblock had the same problem, so mad props to her. 🙂

I was going to mention peerblock and also spybot search and destroy is another one that filters http as well. Took me a decent amount of time to figure that out when I had the problem on my home computer.

did you run a hijackthis?

run hijackthis...and/or also run "autoruns" (check on Google to get it) to see what's starting with windows.

in CMD on Windows, do a SFC /scannow to check system files

Don't use an exotic DNS, I myself doing great with Google DNS which are 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8

I would avoid any "special security DNS"..you don't know what they are doing...this DNS could well redirect your requests.

As I posted, this is a classic PEBKAC. 😛
