Cannon S40 question

How well does is focus up close, especially in low light situations. I would be very greatful if people could post pics to give me a working idea, but any input is appreciated.

My S30 has some problems focusing in low light situations. It is exacerbated by using the zoom.

This problem seems to be the norm for Canon, as it happens with an A40 I got for my GF's mom, and an old 35mm Rebel I have.

I have an S40 and it does seem to have trouble focusing up close. It's 50/50 even in macro mode.

On another note, I tried out the S50 at CC and it was really sweet. The time for the shutter to go from when it is pushed is really fast. Much faster than the S40. I really wanted to get in on the $350 S50 Gateway deal but alas I was too slow.
