Cannon, Lexmark, or HP???

I looking into buying a multifunction device. I haven't bought a printer for home in over 7 years I think so I know very little about what's out there these days... What are people buying these days? What features should I look for? Who is the "value king" these days?

I want the following features for sure:
USB
Printer/Scanner/Copier
Color
Non-laser

I like Canon and I also like seperate devices...better quality and less thing for 1 device to go wrong IMO

Dont get Lexmark. Their ink prices are outragous. They jack up the ink prices to make up for the inexpensive printers and all-in-ones that they sell.

They are also trying to use the DMCA to keep other companies from making compatible cartirdges (for lasers so far).

Decided to go with Canon since everyone seems to be on their bandwagon at the moment with quality and compatibility of ink widgets. I bought an i850 which seemed to be in my price range and offered up the best features plus it had a $30 rebate from Canon. It isn't multifunction, but I guess it's just as easy to buy a cheap low-end scanner to do what I need it to do. Hopefully this one will last me the next 7-8 years like my last printer did. May it rest in pieces!

You got a very good printer. You'll be impressed with the color and speed.
You can find generic cartridges for as little as $2 at megatoners.com or on ebay.

Other than saving deskspace I've never been a fan of "all in one" print, scan, copy devices.

I didn't quite need the capabilities that the i850 provided - plus, it wasn't being sold by Office Depot or Staples at the current moment. However, I picked up a Canon i550 for $99 after coupons and the $30 rebate. I'm really pleased with this printer. It's slightly slower than the i850, but it's a very capable printer. As the other thousand posters indicated in this thread, you can't go wrong with Canon. Their scanners also rock - and so does their G2 digital cameral

I have an older Canon BJC-1000 that I bought for $99 Canadian a couple of years ago. It's never given me any problems at all. I'll be sticking with Canon. But, all 3 makes you mention are great.

The i850 arrived today. Setup was a piece of cake, snap a couple wells in and then plug it in. Quality is a lot better than my old old old HP, go figure! j/k

Nice looking piece of hardware too, they've done a lot of work on the ergonomics since the old square shoebox printers! So far print quality has been good for what I've used it for. I still haven't tested the photo quality but I suspect it is quite good as well. Oh yeah, did an envelope test.. I'm happy to report, A.O.K! You notice reviewers never try the weird stuff to print like envolopes? Always plain or photo paper... go figure?
