Cannibal Holocaust

I find this thread really eerie.

I was looking at this picture of Britney Spears on wwtdd.com (someone in these forums linked to it)
From there, I clicked on an article about 'Hound Dog', the Dakota Fanning movie where she has a controversial rape scene.
I went to IMDB.com where someone had a thread about movies with 'shocking rape scenes'
Two movies with most votes for most disturbing - 'The Last House on the Left' & 'I Spit on Your Grave'
I ended up looking at reviews of those two movies on this site (thru Google) called horrordvds.com
Frantic clicking on links (Google, Wiki etc.) for similar horror/exploitation movies from those days led me to the IMDb page for Cannibal Holocaust
I had just clicked on the review for 'Cannibal Holocaust' a few moments ago.
I refresh ATOT and I see THIS thread.

Animal cruelty

Much of the censorship issues with Cannibal Holocaust involve the on screen killings of animals, which remains a major issue today. A total of six animals are killed in the film:

* A large, screaming coatimundi (mistaken as a muskrat in the film) is stabbed multiple times in the neck by an actor.
* A large turtle (about three feet long) is captured in the water and dragged to shore, where it is then decapitated and its limbs and shell removed. The actors proceed to cook and eat the turtle.
* A large spider is killed with a machete.
* A snake is killed with a machete.
* A squirrel monkey is captured by a native actor portraying a tribesman, who cuts the monkey's face off with a machete while it is struggling and then eats the brains.
* A pig is kicked and shot with a rifle.

Many condemn this as animal cruelty for the purpose of mere sensationalism and only to attract controversy; it has also been called "animal torture." Deodato himself has condemned his past actions,[8] saying "it was stupid to introduce animals."[27]

ZOMG you have seven days!!

As a huge gore fan I'd have to say Cannibal Holocaust along with Cannibal Ferox are the most overrated pieces of crap in the genre.

Years ago when I first heard about Holocaust I just had to have it so I spent couple of months hunting down original uncut VHS, after watching it I just felt ripped off. Thankfully, I doubled my money when I sold it to some other poor gorehound sob

See Men Behind the Sun instead, or the Guinea Pig series.

is it worth seeing if i haven't already?

Not really. Unless you're a gorehound, it's "required viewing", even if it sucks.

is that impalement pic real?

No. Holocaust became infamous because of the real animal cruelty scenes, some people figured maybe rest of it is real too. It's made in a "realistic" style, shaky camera and all. But that shaky camera is why it sucks so much, you can't make out anything that's happening.
