There seems to be a "myth" (?) in my immediate circle that once you open canned goods then you need to put it in another container before putting in the fridge. Leaving it in the can while in the fridge supposedly does something bad to the food; the can causing some reaction with the contents after opening. This seems illogical to me. Any truth to this?

i think that is left over from many many years ago before the tin can was lined, the tin could give the food a flavor (maybe) once it was opened

but tin cans today have a coating, so i don't think that flavor change would occur

that is my guess

or maybe they are just nuts <shrugs>

It depends on what type of food it is and if it has preservatives in it. If the food has nitrates or some other preservative then the food in it can last a few days longer in the fridge. If it has no preservatives then you have to eat it immediately because canned foods are sterile and they count on the absolute sterility of the canning process for maintaining freshness.
