Candy on Thanksgiving??

My Grandmother (born 1911) said when she was a little girl they would go for candy on Thanksgiving.

She grew up in NYC.

Could this be true?

OR is she loosing her mind?

When you say "go for candy," are you envisioning something like trick or treating? Or could she have just meant that, because it was a holiday, the family would just take them out to go get some candy?

All of the children in the city would shyly knock on their neighbor's door and ask if the good turkey fairy had brought them a tasty treat. If they were a good boy or girl they would get tiny yummy chocolate turkeys. If they were bad they would get real turkey intestines slopped in their buckets.
