Cancun question

Rental car necessary for a 5-day stay ? I didn't get any straight answers from an older thread.

If we had a car, are there really places to go with it (beyond the hotel strip area)... and if we didn't have a car, are there places we would miss ?

You probably don't want to rent a car there.... It's easier and probably cheaper just to use Taxis. I also can't think of much outside of Cancun that you would want to see see other than the ancient riuns at places like Chichen-Itza(I can't spell)...

When I went to cancun on our honeymoon we rented a jeep because we thought the drive to the ruins would be pretty. It was pretty.... pretty boring. Not much scenery. I would rent one for a day or two but the bus service there is great and cheap.

No need for a car, the busses are clean and they have a lot of them, if you miss one its only a few mins wait for the next one. If you cant get to where you want with busses there are taxies everywhere.

All you need.

I was in Cancun for a week last year and from what I saw the people drive in an insane manner. Some don't stop at stop signs, like not even slow down. I saw a bus sideswipe a car and just keep on going. Pretty much a free for all on the roadways. I would use taxis instead.

We didn't use a car... the busses and taxis go everywhere you need (and cheaply).

Whatever you do, GO TO CHICHEN ITZA!. Probably the most amazing place I have ever seen... (Of course I am a history nut)

On a side note, All water in Cancun is purified, but if you go outside of Cancun, only eat and drink pre-packaged stuff! We ate some food at a resturaunt at Chichen Itza and got the worse stomach pain I have ever had in my life. Sooo.... if you do go to Chichen Itza, only eat and drink pre-packaged food... seriously... don't forget it!
