Having been to Cancun, I actually did my best to do touristy-type things during the day like snorkeling, jungle cruise, kayaking, etc. These activities were fun, but nothing spectacular. Not like you need to go to Mexico to cruise around on a PWC for 2 hours. We didn't have enough time to make it to Oaxaca or Chichen Itza although people who went to those places from our group felt that it wasn't worth the drive.
Aside from these things, all that was left to do was pretty much drinking and clubbing. Now don't get me wrong, I like drinking as much as (probably more than) the next guy, and once I get to drinking, I don't mind clubbing, either.
But every time some bouncer stiffed me on change for a cover and then said "No Comprende!" when I asked for change in both my language and his....
Every time some rube begged me to do a shot and then demanded $5 + a tip...
And every time I couldn't bring a girl or even a friend from home up to my room because they give everyone bracelets to prove the are actually staying in the hotel...
I couldn't shake that feeling in the back of my head that I could have done the exact same things, cheaper, and stayed in the good old US, where at least the cops want to arrest you instead of rob you, and the con artists have to use better tactics than "no comprende."
So can anyone explain to me the hype about Cancun? I've been there and I can't figure out why as someone over 21 I would want to go to Cancun instead of Vegas or Miami or New Orleans for drunken debauchery.
Someone clue me in!!!!

If you want to go to Cancun, though, 2 hours seems pretty far! And if you're just looking to stay on a resort, why even go to Cancun?
Of course, this begs the question that if you are over the age of 21, why would you go to Cancun at all?
