Cancer?!

My brother and my father went to the doctor today for what I just found out was because of a bump on his back. When went into my room earlier, I just listened in on their conversation for a few seconds, and one thing they said was, "Do not tell Joseph" (Me). Put two and two together, and I thought of cancer. Or something serious. Well, I'm afraid on how to approach this. My brother used to have bad acne on his back, so I asked my mom if his bump was just acne hoping that she wouldn't catch my purposely stupid question. She said no, and that is "was a bump that disapeared or something". I can tell something is up by the way she said it. Especially since she then said that my dad will tell me about it tommorrow. (He is sleeping now). Does this sound like it may be cancer? I know this isn't much info...but I'm really worried.

A bump can be hundreds of things. Your description provides us with absolutely no information. Hope it's not malignant though.

I heard my brother mention malignant when they were talking. I dont know if he said it was, or wasn't though. And my mom also asked why couldn't they see "it" earlier (I do not know what it was that wasn't seen earlier though).

Like I said, sorry I cant share much info, I only overheard a little. I was thinking about asking more directly about it, but my dad is sleeping, and it wouldn't work out now...

Try to chill, you might be getting worked up for no reason. Sometimes hearing only part of a conversation can be misleading. I hope that's all it is. Please post when you know more.

Benign = not bad.

Malignant = bad.

Edit:

The main difference between the two is that one hasn't broken the basementmembrane and one has (i.e. it is invading other tissues causing tumors in other tissues)... the former can be cut out, while the other is more diffcult to treat.

I heard both! Which sort of makes me feel a little better...but Ill just have to wait until tommorrow.

If it is malignant, does it mean he has cancer for sure?

not for sure, but it is growing and could become cancer. malignant tumors can be frozen off and then usually the person with it absolutely fine. don't let yourself get too worked up about it.

my father had prostate cancer when i was in 3rd grade. i didn't really know what it was then, but i knew cancer was bad, and it scared me. dad is still alive and kicking today :D but his re-cooperation process took a long time. it takes a long time to heal from chemo and surgeries.

i think your father will be just fine :)

sorry to hear about it - I hope everything is alright

My father died of cancer a few years ago - it's not an easy road. Keep a positive attitude until you have a reason to do otherwise

ITS BENIGN!!!!!!!

My parents didn't want to even let me know about it at all....because after all, this could have been serious. But I guess they changed their minds. My dad told me coming home from school today. I was just about shaking when he started talking about it! But he said it was benign. I should have just asked them directly about it last night. All day today I couldn't focus on school. But no worries now! :)
