Cancer sucks

A close family friend was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer 2 weeks ago. He has between 4 weeks and 6 months to live. In the span of 2 weeks he has gone from living on his own and being independent to a shell of himself. He has asked my parents to live with them in the interim because he does not want to die alone.

God damned heart breaking 🙁 He is 49 and will not see 50.

EDIT: He passed away just after midnight on July 9th. 🙁

Dang, sorry to hear 🙁 One of the hardest things is to be a helpless bystander...other than offering moral support, you can't do much to stop it and that stinks. Make them comfortable, help them be happy, ultimately they have to come to terms with it themselves.

My buddy is dealing with Crohn's right now...went from being a high-energy dude, working 75 hours a week, to basically a death sentence. They can't even give him an ETA because they just don't know. Super frustrating. He had to quit his job and he's just home all the time now...don't have a clue how to help him because he can't eat anything, can't do anything, has no end date. Horrible 🙁
 
Pancreatic cancer is a mother fucker. My grandma died from it. I know a guy who beat it though, but has all kinds of medical shit he is going through. He just got something called a pain pump I think it's called.

That's too damned young to die.

What are you talking about? Crohn's doesn't compare to cancer in the slightest and is far from a death sentence.
 
Look on the bright side, your buddy has the opportunity to put his affairs in order, say the things that he always thought he should to those who matter, and maybe get in a few last 'I should have done this a long time ago' things before he goes. Much better than being killed unexpectedly in a car accident or something.
 
well that's sad. So young too.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the worst. A few years ago my aunt had lung cancer and watching the 6-month period from diagnosis-to-death was really painful.
 
I'm sorry to hear that. It sucks because there isn't much you can do. At most, you can help him get his affairs in order and spend time with him, but it's still sucky. My uncle passed away earlier this year from Stage 4 colon cancer. He would have been 58 on July 4th. He was perfectly fine at my brother's wedding last September and only 6 months later, we were burying him in the ground. 🙁

Thanks yeah same with my dad a year before he was working and fine.
 
Damn, how do you go from fine one day to STAGE 4 the next day? Wasn't he ever screened for cancer before? Were there any warning signs leading up until now?

Did he just feel sick one day, go to the doctor and they said "Oh BTW, you have 6 months to live" ?

My sis was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer last August, it's in both breasts & both lungs. 🙁
 
A dad of a family I grew up around died from this. When I heard he had it I was crushed, he had just came in the store I worked at a few weeks before. He was telling me about the trip to Egypt just got back from. A few days later I wanted to go see him, was told he was already in Hospice and beyond the point you want to visit. So I never got a chance to see him, he was around late 50's.

It still saddens me how quickly he went from traveling the world to that point.
 
My Grandma died from Pancreatic cancer in 2008. She was 72.

She caught it before it was stage 4, but she ended up losing after fighting for 2 years.

Pancreatic cancer can advance a long way before there are any symptoms. So, it's often detected late.
 
Cancer does suck.

My great aunt got diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer 3 years ago. So far she is recovering very nicely. Just blind luck.

My grandma died from breast cancer in 1985, before I was born.

I survived kidney cancer when I was 2 years old. Had to get the right kidney removed, and did a blood transfusion as I lost a lot of blood during the surgery. Only later my parents, family, and doctors found out that I acquired severe hearing loss(chemo) and was infected with Hepatitis B and C from the transfusion. Three years ago, I was officially cured from those Hepa fuckers.

A 16 year old just found a method in which to test for pancreatic cancer that is reliable and cheap. The current test for pancreatic cancer costs hundreds of dollars.

but unfortunately for my friend his only symptom was a persistent flu that carried on for about a month. Once he started losing weight he saw his doctor and that was that.

Unless they remove the majority of your intestines, put you on a liquid diet, and tell you that you could die at any time, which is the circumstance my friend is in 🙁
