How long does it take my gf's credit card (Dell credit card) to get credited back the amount they deducted? They did not even build the computer yet. How long??????????

Why are you cancelling your order?

Normally it takes 3 business days but it could take up to 30 days.

If you ordered a 14.1" XGA then you're ok

However if you ordered a 15.0" XGA you may not be happy

SXGA or UXGA is best on a 15.0"

Oh I got the 14.1. Ross do you think I should cancel or just go with it? I got the 14.1!

Depends on your eye sight.

You know the best advice? Before I bought our Compaq Presario 1500T with 15.0" SXGA another AT'er gave me the best advice in the world.

You and your g/f should visit your local Best Buy and CompUSA stores. They obviously don't carry Dell laptops but they do carry all the laptop displays including 14.1 XGA, 15.0 XGA, 15.0 SXGA, 15.0 UXGA and more.

You HAVE to see them side by side to see which is best for your set of eyes. Since our laptop is in our house 99.9% of the time, portability isn't really a major concern for us and I wanted a big beautiful easy to read display so I paid the extra $100 for the 15.0 SXGA.

Have the charges posted, or is it simply a hold?

If they haven't posted, & you're sure they won't, go ahead & re-order what you want.

You'll have no available credit (I'm presuming this is why you're worried?), but unless charges post for more than your limit you'll be fine.

It's probably just a hold (authorization) and not a hard charge yet.

For the price you got, I would just let your order go through and have it shipped.

Unless you visit a local computer store and fall in love with something other than a 14.1 XGA.

Also if you cancel and re-order, you may not be eligible for the previous discounts and rebates you used.

Actually Viper GTS knows more about hardware than I do and would probably agree with my advice. Then again he is my biyatch :D

Don't do this... Dell specifically says that you want to cancel your order to NOT refuse the shipment. It could delay your credit.

btw, when I did my return (for a coworker) it took 4 days from the time I sent it back to get a refund to my card. Very fast...

Thanks Jug for the same advice, I appreciate it as well. I'm gonna stick with it for the price I got. It's my first lappy using it mainly for school and some slight work so I think we'll be ok.

Since your laptop hasn't shipped yet, you still have an advantage of possibly cancelling and re-ordering.

I would still suggest visiting your local CompUSA or Best Buy and checking out the different screens yourself in person.
