Canceled my X800XT PE order with CDW

Aloha to all on the forum and Happy New Year. I recently canceled my order for an ATI X800 XT PE with CDW. I ordered it almost three months ago and got word from them that they were not expecting it in anytime soon (no big surprise).

Now I'm indecisive about what to go for next. I was looking at upgrading my card from the current one I have (ATI 9800 Pro 256/256 flashed to a 9800 XT) to a BGF 6800 Ultra. But I started looking at all the different LCD monitor threads and was thinking having a second monitor would be nice to do my digital editing (the present monitor I have is a NEC/Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB 19" CRT).

I do A LOT of video editing and digital photos. I also like to game when I have the time (Doom 3 and Far Cry). I was looking at the Samsung 193P as my choice of LCD monitor to accompany my NEC/Mitsu monitor if I decided to go with a monitor upgrade instead of a video card upgrade (as I mentioned before the BFG 6800 Ultra). I can only go with either a second monitor upgrade or a video card upgrade at the moment (until I shake the money tree a bit more). I'm just looking at other peoples objective (subjective?) ideas on what to go for next.

BTW, J & R has the Samsung for sale (with rebates until 08 Jan) for $499 and the BFG 6800 Ultra could be had for about $500.

Looks like I made up my mind😉. Went to the Hot Deals forum and got a coupon for a Dell 2005FPW. Just finished my order at Dell and should be getting my new wide screen LCD monitor next week:Q. God bless everyone at Anandtech!!!

All the best.

P.S. Now to look forward for the next upgrade...

Yeah, looks like that would be it (the 6800 Ultra), the next upgrade for the system that I have. I figure the system I have is doing me right in all aspects that I mentioned in my first post and getting that hi perf video card would round out my system.

The great discount I got for the Dell LCD monitor sealed the deal for me. Now looking to see if there will be any price breaks on the video card any time soon...

All the best.

I dont know where you were planning on getting your 6800 Ultra but I was looking at Newegg and there cheapest 6800U is $499. I thought I just point out that they also have a X800 XT PE for the same price.....

Why bother getting the 6800ultra? They've been on the market for too long and in 2 months they're going to have new cards which would make your purchase stupid. Patience is a vertue and in this case you won't be kicking you self in 2 months had you bought it.

I was looking at ZZF to get the 6800 Ultra because of the free shipping (to Hawaii no less). I don't think the X800 XT PE is available anywhere at the moment at the retail price.

I guess I could wait a while longer to see what the new year brings in regards to video cards, I'm not hell bent on getting any thing soon since I already waited three months for the ATI card and there was no end in sight in acquiring it.

Thanks for the responses. I think getting the Dell LCD is a great upgrade for now.

if you cant get a X800XT (noone can, its also discontinued, DOH)..then get a X850XT PE.

SHOULD be available in some stores in one.two weeks (???) and retails for anything from $449 up. Cheaper than the X800XT.

>>> I don't think the X800 XT PE is available anywhere at the moment at the retail price.

forget the X800XT PE. No point with X850XT PE coming out soon (hopefully), its also faster and cheaper.

Mahalo Flexy for the heads up on the 850XT PE. I guess it was a good thing that the 800 XT PE was not available (discontinued). I will see where I can get the new card when it finally hits the shelves.

Best regards to all.

If you are playing doom3, then go with nvidia. They run doom3 better. If you look at benchmarks, just look at the games you play and see who does what better. ATI is better at some games, nvidia is better at others. I went ATI again because they are better at the games I play, easy choice for me.

You said you game "when you have the time," so I'm not seeing you as the kind who needs that kind of hardcore gamer-class card. Your 9800 Pro could certainly serve you well for a while longer. If you're looking for a smaller boost, consider some overclocking. In my mind, at least, something like a 6800 vanilla or lower is not really worth the money you'll pay for it. A 6800GT, however, would be of use if you wanted to run at some of the higher resolutions. (Keep in mind that, at least for now, the X850XT PE is PCIe-only, necessitating a new motherboard. Anand stated this in a recent video card article.)

Oops, looks like the x850 xt pe is out of the question for now (would have found out when I looked at the specs one way or another).

When I do have the time to game, let me tell you I spend hours farting around trying to get to the next level and I enjoy being able to get the best performance. The 9800 Pro was the only card available at the time I ordered my hardware so I am now looking forward in graphics/video performance.

Looks like the nVidia is the route I will be taking...if I can find one. Looks like ZZF has them. I'll email them before committing.

so are you getting the 6800U?

Finally took the plunge and got the BFG 6800 Ultra OC. I wanted a ATI x800xt PE but it was too much of a hassle. More I look at it, brenchmarks are great and the BFG has a lifetime warranty and 24/7 tech support.

My rig is set until the next upgrade itch😀

PLEASE PM me when you get it and let me know if your 2nd dvi is screwed up while using this forum. My 2nd LCD blinks off for a second when I scroll around in threads here, and randomly at other websites as well. It's bloody annoying.

Aloha remagavon and thanks for the heads up. I bet it is annoying and hope you will get it resolved. Did you try contacting tech support?

I ordered a Sapphire X800 XT PE (Retail) for $543 off edazz.com last week, should be here on Monday. I had a ATI X800 XT PE (Retail) pre-ordered off ATI.com for $463, I placed that order in October. Finally last week I called them to see what's up, and they tell me that card has been discontinued! They said they sent an e-mail out to everyone who had it pre-ordered saying "it was discontinued and their order has been cancelled", but I never got that e-mail, nor was my ordered cancelled. I was...angry.

Did you see this thread? Dell 2005FPW

If you can compare your CRT with your 2005FPW and post pictures like I did, that would be awesome, since I'm not sure if my backlight / contrast problem is an isolated incindent, I think all the 2005's are like this though.

You don't want the X850 anymore, but you can get them at monarch, eDaZZ.com, ect. for an extremely high price right now. Don't know how many of them are retail though.

Aloha wolfman579. I pretty much have given up on ATI. I also took a stab at ordering an ATI x800 xt PE from Shop ATI in October 2004 and cancelled my order shortly after because CDW had them for below retail. I waited until early this month to cancel with CDW after being informed that CDW didn't know if they were getting any in at all! (after letting me hang for three months). So I decided to go with the 6800 Ultra OC because they were usually in stock and BFG has a lifetime warranty. Specs may not be as high as the x800xt PE but at least the 6800 Ultra OC is not vaporware and it will give me a lot of performance jump from my 9800 Pro.

Yes, I've seen the thread you mention (I made the first comment on your thread). I just hope when I get my 2005FPW all what I've been reading won't make me more critical when viewing it for the first time. I like the idea of having a wide screen monitor for doing my video editing and even gaming.

Have fun with your new ATI card and for that matter building your new system. Sorry to hear you'll be sending back the 2005FPW.

No I didn't, I figure that I either have a defective card or else they all have this bug, I've tried 5+ different bios verisons and many drivers, so I'm pretty sure the problem is with my hardware, but I've searched most of the major forums and come up empty handed regarding my problem, so I think I might just have a bad card, but not many people have ultras at this point so that's why I asked you. 🙂
