I saw a similar thread a few months ago, but I called in then, and I couldn't get the deal because it was yet to be offered in Alabama and Georgia supposedly. I have just received bill for this month, and now i am allowed to cancel my contract with out cancellation fees.

So the guys who couldn't do it earlier like me, you might want to check back and try to see if you can do it now.

This is what it says on Page 4 of my Bill.

Quoted from August Bill:

"Many of us don't think about it, but the cost of collecting monthly bill payments from customers who have not paid them by the specified due date is substantial. To limit those costs, November 1, 2002, will mark a change to the existing late payment charge policy. Beginning with your November billing statement, late payment charges will change from the current 1.5 percent of unpaid balances to $5 or 1.5 percent on unpaid balances, whichever is greater. As always, no charges apply to on-time payments. If you disagree with this change, you will not be subject to a cancellation charge if you cancel your service no later than 45 days from the billing date noted on this bill. We thank you for your prompt payment and thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless."

I hope this helps you guys.

Good Luck,

just messing with you, we all missspell on forums (see).

AT&T had the same thing for a while, to cancel with no fees. So my GF bought a new phone (Sprint), and when she called in to cancel her old phone they said she was a couple days to late, and want to charge her $150. After I get through with them they will wich they let he cancel the first time :).

Dyno:

This turned out to be a hot deal for me. I wanted to cancel but had a contract till the end of the year. Thanks to your thread I just called them up and read your last paragraph to them and they said no problem, we will cancel your account without a cancelation fee (actually they charge you and then credit your account back, hope this works like they said).

Thanks again,

BSR

I am surprised they let you cancel so easily. I had a friend that said he wanted to cancel and he was transferred to another person who kept asking him why he wanted to cancel and asked how what they could do to keep him. They didn't do this to you at all? They did the same thing wish his account also, they charged him and they credited back.

I am glad it worked for you.

yep this is true...
<~~ works in cell phone industry.

thou i'm not going to cancel. CDMA is by far superior than GSM in so cal (IMO). Verizon is changing the terms of the contract (late payment fee), so to avoid legal issues to those who signed contracts prior to June 1st (I believe that's the date, gotta double check that), they are informing their customers about it and giving them the option to cancel if they do not agree with it. Otherwise, you essentially say you agree to those new late fee terms after 45 days from the day you receive the notice. If you are a new customer after june 1st (or whatever day it states), you should not be allowed to cancell as you should be under contract w/ the new policy already.

AT&T's thing i believe is that they will count calls that are not picked up but ring up over 30 seconds of talk time as a minute of airtime. So they allowed customers to opt outta that to, not sure if its still going on thou.

I have to say that Verizon is probably one of the best wireless services out there in Cali. I don't know about people outside of california but here I don't think it can be beat service wise.

Checked my August Verizon bill and could not find any free cancellation statement. I am in the Baltimore Washinton region. Although they have very good wireless service here, they do not respond to e-mails. See my post under "Brag and Moan":

They have the notoriously worst customer service. I am not going on just personal experience I saw a survey on the news.

But on the other hand, they can all be bad.

Maybe their regular phone or dsl service, but thier cell phone customer service has been great to me. I've called at least 5 times and I've been connected to a CSR who was able to help me out within 10 minutes (about half have been less than 5 minutes.) Havne't a had a problem with Verizon and I'm one of thier happy California customers.

Yes, it does.
Just cancel mine last week and change to T-mobile 1000 minutes.
Call them up, tell them about the note you receive about changing in late charge fee.

That 1000 minute T-Mobile plan runs out REALLY soon, actually, I think tomorrow (tuesday) may be the last day, so if anyone is considering it, jump on it NOW, its one hell of a deal.

For those on the west coast you do realize that team mobile is voicestream and both use the cingular network. I don't hear to many pleasant things about cingular on the west coast which means team mobile should be about the same.

If you really want GSM/GPRS enabled phones you may want to look into AT&T since they should be rolling out GSM sometime soon and without all the problems cingular has.
