Question Cancel Founder's Edition RTX 4080 and order PNY RTX 4090 or AsRock 7900XTX?

A few days ago I ordered a Founder's Edition RTX 4080 and I still have a chance to cancel the order. I have a Meshify C case which won't fit a PNY RTX 4090 if I keep my 2x140 intake fans installed and the Founder's Edition RTX 4090 is out of stock and I never see it saying in stock. If I go for the PNY RTX 4090 or any other AIB RTX 4090 card, then I will have to buy a bigger case, so that's an additional cost on top of the additional cost of the RTX 4090 over the RTX 4080. I also have a good quality 850w power supply, so I'm on the edge of having adequate power for the RTX 4090 as the power requirements of that card mention 850w power supply. I'm wondering if I should cancel my order on the RTX 4080 and just get the PNY RTX 4090, a new case, and possibly a new power supply. I'm also considering the ASRock 7900XTX instead of the RTX 4090 if I decided to cancel my order on the RTX 4080. The two main games I'm focusing on are X-Plane 12 and FS2020, so if the 7900XTX is performing worse than a RTX 4080 in these games then I would rather stay with the 4080 than go with a 7900XTX. My CPU is a Ryzen 5800X3D.

Which model of AsrRock 7900XTX are you looking at? The reference designs will be smaller, and will likely use less power, but won't be as fast or as well cooled as a model with a larger cooler and 3 8 pins.

I am not sure how the cards fair in those games/sims, but remember it will also depend on settings and resolution used.

You'll be giving up DLSS3 in MSFS if you get the 7900XTX. It makes a big difference in a CPU-limited game like that one, and it isn't the kind of game where the added latency will be a problem.

Eh…. FSR 3 is coming along soon too. I am expecting that to continue to be a feature that will eventually see essential parity in.

For a bit though, Nvidia was simply better supported mainly in a xplane vs MSFS which I believe has an Xbox (and therefore AMD tested/optimized) version.

I'd rather buy something that I can use right now over what has been promised in the future.

Besides that, DLSS3 combines Reflex with frame generation, and Reflex is something AMD doesn't have, and I have not seen anything indicating that it'll be a thing in the future.

The 5800X3D and 4090 using frame generation in FS2020 is outstanding.

Even combo'd with the 4080, it kills it with FG.

this is the new microsoft flight simulator? this is real video from the game? holy smokes. this looks nothing like the flight sim I remember trying out in the 90s, big fat duh given the time but even the one I remember seeing that came out in 2005 was terrible looking.

The MSI Suprim Liquid 4090 is easy to find in stock now and much smaller than the other models. It should fit in most cases and the radiator exhausts all the hot air directly out of the case.

Sold out on amazon this morning. I suspect either a mild drop in price or a pricing error. Amazon just began carrying the strix after having the tuf in for months. based on the breakdown videos i saw and partially slept through msi has the best build quality for the 4090 surpassed that of founders. And a good price compared to Asus who think their name means ferrari in computing circles.

That looks like a good deal actually! I think the Phanotom model is pretty solid, assuming it will work with your case and PSU. The 4090 is also a decent option I find, as the fastest card available for now. But expect to pay a fair bit more for a 4090.

A note on the 4090 though: I hear that all models' GPUs are pretty much pushed to the max, so don't expect to get more performance from one or the other. Just make sure it will fit with your case and PSU, though you could also consider the warranty of different vendors.

They are available at the msrp on Newegg, Best Buy and some other sites. As you said, they are not that expensive for an AIO model, and cheaper than Asus and some other brands.

I do love asus and msi more than other brands even during the evga era because they had less f ups than them. asus premium is real and it sucks! the MSI stuff is very classy looking and has been for several gens now. the asus is hideous except the tuf, but niether it or the strix are internally built to handle loads like msi. the tuf is a flat 1600 which isn't bad for budget folks, but he msis are all under 2 grand which ain't bad but the ti is coming between jun and august which would be better but a poor choice for some if they can wait until 50 series in fall of 24.
