the automatic lens cover does not open fully upon power on.

I have to give it a tiny nudge with my finger nail to pop it open fully.

(I'm talking about the black panel on the front of the lens that serves as an automatic lens cap and is divided into 2 pieces.)

It hasnt been dropped or anything. it was just in a box on my shelf for 6 months since last use. (it worked fine back then.)

i replaced the batteries with new ones. same problem.

Any ideas?

I have had that problem as well....its usually caused by something getting stuck in the "lens cap" mechanism. Sounds like there was a speck of dust that worked its way in there when you weren't using it.

When this happened with my g/f's camera, I carefully cleaned the lens cover with a little isopropyl alcohol on a microfiber cloth. Been good for months now.

You could always try sending it back to canon and getting a better camera through their loyalty program :)

A40, A60, A70, A75, A80, A95 A510, A520, A530, A540, A610 trade for:
A560 - $89
SD1000 - $100
SX100 IS - $125

thx!

which is the better bang for the buck camera out of those 3?

imo, I much rather fork more dough for the SX100

I was going to trade in my A80. After 5 years it started putting red vertical lines in random pictures. After talking to their tech support for a few minutes; they are going to ship/fix my camera for no charge!

I also have a busted A530 that I am trading in for the either SD1000 or
SX100 IS.
