...I guess most economists are right; the private-sector is more effecient in proving the markets with quality goods :) Socialist weed sucks, so it seems.

OTTAWA, Canada (AP) -- Some of the first patients to smoke Canada's government-approved marijuana say it is "disgusting" and they want their money back.

Health Canada, the federal health department, started selling marijuana in July to bring relief to patients suffering from AIDS, cancer and other diseases. The move followed a court order that patients should not be forced to get their marijuana from drug dealers on the streets.

But some of the first to buy the government's marijuana say it is no good.

"It's totally unsuitable for human consumption," said Jim Wakeford, 58, an AIDS patient in Gibsons, British Columbia.

Wakeford and Barrie Dalley, a 52-year-old Toronto man who uses marijuana to combat the nausea associated with AIDS, are returning their 1-ounce (30-gram) bags, and Dalley is demanding his money back -- about C$150 ($110) plus taxes. Wakeford is returning his unpaid bill for two bags with a written complaint.

The marijuana is being grown for Health Canada deep underground in a vacant mine section in Flin Flon, Manitoba, by Prairie Plant Systems on a contract worth about C$5.75 million ($4.2 million).

Ten patients have registered with Health Canada to buy marijuana directly from the government to alleviate their medical symptoms. Another 39 applications are pending.

No patients have complained directly to Health Canada so far, spokeswoman Krista Apse said, and the department will not accept returns or provide refunds.

Meanwhile, Vancouver inaugurated North America's first government-authorized drug-injection site Monday. The controversial government-funded project will give users injection kits and allow them to shoot up under nurse supervision.

Drug users sometimes use dirty needles and water from puddles to shoot up. Now, addicts wanting to use the new facility will be ushered into a brightly lit room lined on one side by open, mirrored booths where they can inject drugs.

After finishing, they will be taken to a "chill-out room," where they can receive counseling and peer referrals.

It absolutely can be. The link proves the Canadian government is doing it better for less. They just need to get those plants out into the :sun: Once they figure out a few minor problems Canadians who are approved will be getting some of that pot they talked about in "American Beauty." G13 or what ever the hell they called it. And for $110 US per ounce!

DAMN!

What's an ounce cost where you live Corn? How much do you usually buy? Dime bag?

Sort of like Iraq is here, but Iraq is a government program you support. One you'll give them all the money and time they ask for without question.

Would you actually rather have these people buying drugs on a street corner from a pusher?

The bes pot is grown indoors, but I suppose these guys may not know what they're doing. Like Hackers being hired to protect computer systems, the Government should look to the ranks in Prison to grow their pot! :)

I believe that wasn't in reference to weed. I think that they were referring to a separate program to help sanitize some of the more hard core users' bad habits (ie: heroin). By giving them clean facilities, they think they can cut down on those annoying problems like the spread of disease and long hospital stays due to infections for those users. It also gives them a chance to get in a little counseling with them.

Edit: Btw, am I the only person who doesn't like weed brownies? They always upset my stomach a bit ;).

Not everybody thinks that way. I think we should let the people who know how to grow weed do the growing, and the government should stay out of it.

What do you mean by "government interference"?
It's all over this story.
- government makes weed illegal.
- people suffering from some serious illnesses discover that weed allievates their suffering (I have witnessed this firsthand and do not tolerate debate on the subject -- it does).
- those suffering find themselves forced to go to shady black market drug dealers in order to obtain weed because of aforementioned government-mandated prohibition.
- sufferers sue government and win.
- sufferers must buy low-quality weed from government instead of the government just allowing them to grow their own.

Where is there not government interference? Jeez... just let them grow their own. Or, better yet, just legalize it and let them buy it at the corner smoke shop. Guaranteed that sh!t would be of high-quality.

Actually, you they do allow you to grow you own. Plus, no gov officer will come around and check if you're growing what the gov sells you, or BC Bud (which I hear is one of the best)

Anyway, they are also working on a good solution for the rest of us. Hopefully it will be fully decrim'ed before the end of the year.
