SUCK!

Not being a resident of Canuckistan, I can't speak to the quality of all television shows, but the ones that are being foisted on us here are terrible.

Flashpoint
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flashpoint_(TV_series)

I had never heard of this one before this year. It's perhaps the best of the three I'm going to mention.

Rookie Blue
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rookie_Blue

Perhaps the WORST of the three...I fail to understand why it didn't get cancelled in its first season.

Combat Hospital
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_Hospital

First season for this one...and only one show so far, but what I saw wasn't great. I'm leaving it in my DVR list for now...in hopes that it will get better...but I doubt it will.

If that's the kind of crap youse Canuckistanians are expose to on a regular basis...then I now understand why you're all so...well...Canadian. :p

They are so bad we had to export them to a more appropriate country.

We only do Documentary and Comedy well. Everything else pretty much is mediocre at best or downright terrible on average. Unless you throw in something like the Stargate TV series, but it's kind of a stretch to call that "Canadian", although it often gets listed that way.

I know Combat Hospital sucks just from the promo commercials. Even in 5 second snippets the dialogue comes across as very forced and nauseatingly cliched.

We have a complex where we are afraid that the outside world perceives us as peaceniks/tree huggers and generally people who have nothing "serious" or "big" going on in their lives. So we try to act tough and give the impression that we have "issues" too, just like some of the larger, more "sophisticated" countries.

Hence the shows.

Trailer Park Boys is indisputable proof of Canada's awesomeness.

Also, I rather thought Kids in the Hall was fvckin hilarious.

hehe, something like that. We're just a bunch of small town people basically. Which I think is good, we haven't become jaded yet.

I have to agree...

Flashpoint is the best of the bunch, but it goes too emo. Should have made it more CSI. More like, how the hell is it that no US network has picked up a show about a SWAT team by some over-hyped producer yet?

Rookie Blue: Just what we need, another show about kids.

Combat Hospital: I just don't care for the premise. Leave that shit-can country alone.

"Being Erica" is probably among the best Canadian export right now. *runs away*

Canada has a lot of talent but it all goes down south. Canadian networks also lack the big budgets of American ones. I never really got into Flashpoint and haven't seen the other two. The only one I regularly watch is Murdoch Mysteries, which is a Victorian period crime drama series. Inspired by by Holmes.

What about the Stargate series. SG-1 and Atlantis are Canadian shows and were pretty popular.

The irony is that the best actors on american TV are mostly Canadian.

I am wondering how bad could Canadian shows be? The shit that is on American TV is the absolute crap. I miss the days when "The Odd Couple" and "MASH" and shows like that were being made. The kids today get so wrapped up in the jersey shore that it just sickens me. Is Canadian TV worse? Is that even possible?

Good point. Look at where Ellen Page started very early in her career.

The Canadian version of Cribs is hilarious. Unlike their American counterparts, many of the celebrities in Canada own these tiny little houses in normal residential neighborhoods that pale in comparison to the mansions that most celebrities own in the US.

And here in Canada, the CBC will run absolute crap television for what seems like forever. Shows like Little Mosque in the Prairie, the Ron James Show, and crap like that.

Add to that that a lot of good "american" TV shows are filed in Vancouver.

Battlestar Galactica
Stargate

I don't think I'd claim any of those...

Little Mosque isn't that bad. It's watchable.

Also, apparently Rachel McAdams lives in downtown Torona and bikes around the place. Oh, and imdb says that there's a "Mean Girls 2". For shame...

Well, the CBC has to support Canadian programming. I think the only "out of Canada" programming they allow is a Sunday night movie.
