BRAMPTON, Ontario - A Canadian teenager accused of plotting to bomb targets in southern Ontario was arraigned Friday, a day after his arrest.

Ibrahim Aboud, 19, looked straight ahead as he was charged with participating in a terrorist group and training for terrorist purposes.

With his arrest, Aboud became the 18th suspect in a major counterterrorism operation.

A publication ban that prohibits the media from reporting on any evidence heard in court was imposed at Aboud's request. He was scheduled to appear in court next Tuesday for a bail hearing.

Canadian authorities announced June 3 they had foiled a homegrown terrorist plot, claiming the suspects had obtained three tons of ammonium nitrate. They said they were inspired by al-Qaida.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokeswoman Judith Laurence said police aren't ruling out additional arrests.

"I'm not going to say more arrests are imminent," she said. "It is possible, because the investigation is still ongoing."

Three of the younger suspects have been released on bail, though they remain under house arrest in their parents' homes.
