Canadian MP apologizes for calling Americans 'bastards'

OTTAWA - A Liberal MP has apologized for saying about Americans: "I hate those bastards."

MP Carolyn Parrish was speaking to reporters about Canada's diplomatic initiative on Iraq. At the end of her comments, after most of the cameras were turned off, Parrish said, "Damn Americans ? I hate those bastards."

Grrrrr! Linkage! :disgust:

Ah, good ol's Canadians. But hey, who cares what she thinks? They're just jealous because their only tank is from the 1970's😉 Na just kidding!

I assumed MP = Member of Parliment, but didn't want to say something and be made a total ass. So that'd be like a Member of the House saying the same thing. I'm pretty sure that'd cause an outcry. You can state your position on another country's behavior, there's nothing wrong with that. Hell, we have people telling jokes, and making fun of people. But the point is they don't use the vulgarity she did.

We lack a strong army, but our government has made it clear time and time again we don't feel one is neccesary, and we as the citizens seem to agree, we don't have our hands in the air in contempt, do we?

only because you already have cheese!

Relax. It's nothing to get worked up over. I saw the video, she leaned in to an acquaintance and said it jokingly with a smile on her face. Nothing 90% of Canadians haven't said before, and 90% of Americans haven't said about Canadians.

The point is conceded though that she shouldn't say things like that in front of cameras when she's an MP... I mean c'mon, have a little discretion.

Oh and MP does = Member of Parliament.

That's one of the stupidest things I've heard all week.

You don't need one because you're bordering the most powerful country in history and on good terms with it. However, if canadians continue to act in this manner, it'll only be a matter of time before we start treating you the same way we treat the french.

Correct-o-mundo! If it wasn't 4 in the morning, I would have been able to respond with an equally cleaver response. 😀

Exactly, you guys know we'll protect you if you ever were attacked. Much like that nerdy kid in school who is friends with the smart popular jock in his class.

That's because you live under the considerable umbrella provided at no cost by the citizens of the US.

Liberals hate. Why this is news is beyond me.

No one wants to attack us anyway.

I'm sure she meant what she said, why apologize? As long as she appreciate us 'bastards' has given her country plenty of jobs, such as Ford, GM, and Chrysler assembly plants, and we spend billions of dollars on defense for both the US and Canada, so that those Canadians can spend money somewhere else, such as a nice health care coverae.

This whole thing has been blown out of proportion. She was either joking, or is an idiot, in which case she has plenty of company on both sides of the border. It's not worth making a fuss over IMO.

This apology OTOH is so obviously insincere it makes me LMAO. Either say you were joking or stand up for your opinion, don't patronize us with such a blatently false statement. Oh well, I guess that kind of honest, transparent attitude would be too much to ask from a politician...
