With all this Olympic talk...
I heard lots of Canadian commentators and even Gretsky himself dancing around the fact that it's about time they won hockey gold for Canada. Man, I have a funny feeling that Russkies are gonna whup us all...

I like our team this year. Lots of speed. However, why Belfour is on it is beyond me.

True. But I think we might have what it takes to take the gold this time. We'll find out next friday. :)

If Belfour actually sees any icetime, how he plays probably won't matter any more
(we'll already be eliminated). Having Theodore, Thibault or Luongo watching the
games from the stands won't be any different than having Belfour up there.

Russia is gonna take gold, everyone else is contending for silver/bronze. Then again the Czechs will take silver with Hasek and Jagr/Elias/Sykora nice one-two punch there!

Why Russia? Bulin wall nuff said!

I think luck will play a big role as well. I mean, come quarterfinal, almost anyone can beat anyone, the teams are very even, so it could be USA, Canada, Finland, Russia, Sweden or the Czech Republic. Of course, I hope it will be Czechs who will win, but we'll see. I think this will be the greatest hockey tournament in a long time, last one being in Nagano.

Canada will take it...

Just hope the other teams decide to play entertaining hockey like Canada/Russia games always are...

It's gotta be a Canada/Russia final... for old time's sake :)

That reminds me of the comments made by a NA-coach before Nagano olympics (don't remember that was it canadian or american coach). He said "NOW we will see who is the greatest hockey-nation in the world". He was referring to the fact that NA-teams (and other teams as well) didn't before have their best NHL-players playing. Now each team had all the best players they could get. The end-results? top three teams were european ;). Wasn't it:

1. Czech Republic
2. Finland
3. Russia (or was it Sweden?)

Nagano was a crappy tournament... And there's no way this olympics will even come close to comparing with the '72 summit series. Now THAT was hockey.

And it was the Czechs, Russians, then the Fins in Nagano...

And Canada lost to the Czechs in a damn shootout to lose their berth in the gold medal game... Everyone knows shootouts should be outlawed...

Hey, I wasn't the one who claimed that Nagano would prove the absolute hockey-supremacy, it was the coach of Canadas or USA's team ;).

<< Shootouts blow... They don't prove which team was better at all... >>

So you want to play forever until someone scores? That way it could go another 60 minutes which wouldn't be fair to the team which would have won because they'd be dead tired playing against the next team making them more likely to lose. I think it's fine as it is.

It's a sport about endurance. Let them play hockey. Why don't they just end it after the third period and then play some basketball to determine the winner? Cause it's not hockey... Just like shootouts aren't hockey.

If you're looking at multiple overtimes as a punishment, then yeah, that's what they are... Why should a team not have to deal with the consequences of not having beaten the other team in regulation time?
