Surprised no one started this thread yet. Results should start coming in around 7pm Eastern but will take some time for all precincts to be reporting. I think it'll be close, but I predict Trudeau will hold on to power by the slimmest of margins thanks to younger voters, or perhaps come out on top if a minority government is formed with the NDP. I'm also expecting the Tories and NDP to win seats at Liberals' expense, but we'll see what the final tally is. If Scheer pulls this off, I'll be disappointed, but not entirely surprised.

Probably because most of us north of the border just want to throw up in our mouths and pretend we don't have to make this choice today...

My prediction. Minority government. Who wins is too close to call.

Is Canada similar to the US where low turnout helps conservatives?

Depends on what part of the country you are talking about. On the East Coast it would probably help the Conservative Party the most. In Quebec probably more the Bloc. Bottom line, it's about keeping the Liberal vote down.

Most likely Liberals win, maybe a majority, maybe having to form a minority government with the NDP. If they lose, it will be the first time a first term majority government has not won a second term in Canada in something like close to 100 years.

Conservatives have a rough time now because of the Trump effect. While you can definitely find conservatives here who like Trump and go in for his lunacy, there are plenty of conservatives that do not. I think that is hurting the CPC party, no one wants to be responsible for putting a government in power here that they think will align themselves with any of the fanatical positions of Trump's government.

I think Scheer gets the most seats but Trudeau manages to keep government for a while at least with vote by vote support from the NDP and Bloc. Back to the polls within 18 months.

I would put the blame, so to speak, on Doug Ford.

I think this go around people know Trump simply has no parallel in Canada, Trudeau hasn’t tried to draw that parallel at all.

Valid point. Ontario picked him though, even with all the baggage of his deceased brother and his fairly hyperbolic campaign. It was a crappy election here to be sure, Wynne was unpopular and the NDP just doesn't have the numbers. I struggled to pick a vote I could stomach.

Have to consider all those voters here in Ontario for Ford are likely going CPC. If they could vote for him, they're not going to have trouble voting for Scheer.

The climate change issue is a sticking point for me. While Canadian conservatives are not whack jobs who try to deny the reality of it, the CPC tends to try and stay silent on it, which is bad in its own way. At least the disagreement here is mostly on how to deal with the issue, not one side trying to claim reality is fake.

Bernier seems to come close in some ways but his national support is around 5% last I saw. The Conservatives also certainly tried, with not a lot of success, to borrow/use various Trumpian/Republican ideas and strategies during the campaign .

I voted today...

The pollster said to place my mark inside the circle opposite the name of my choice.....

I asked what marks are acceptable...
She said that "any mark" is OK as long as it's inside the circle...

I drew a penis..

Guess what name it was next to????

I’ve been calling them the 2% party for a while, I’ll be surprised if even that materializes. They’ve polled around 3% most of the campaign.

The election results are showing a tie between Cons and Libs.

Last time I checked was a few mins ago:

Liberals - elected 68
Cons - elected 68
BQ - elected 17
NDP - elected 1
Greens - elected 1

CBC is projecting Liberals with 156 seats so, probably a strong enough minority to govern without any formal coalition agreements.

I'm calling the next one at 2 1/2 to 3 years unless something extremely goofy happens.
