Hell no, that's not true. For instance, you'll never want to exchange your currency at the airport, they'll rape you.

Banks usually charge comission on top of it. You rarely get the exact same exchange rate as the one listed in the papers and such is usually the rate for transactions larger than $1,000,000

Sorry Phuz but you're wrong. Exchange rates differ all over. For example a casino near the border might post great exchange rates so that people come there to exchange, hit a couple slots on the way out, but a drink and bingo they made more than the difference back.

Actually its both. While other currencies have been trading higher as well, the CAD is going up much faster than say the Euro or Yen. Part of this is because at the moment we have the best economy in the developed world, outperforming all G7 countries. How long will it last? I dunno, hopefully a long time!
