Kinda good news, but it may be too late. Paul Martin will most likely be moving the Liberal Party to the Right, something that he has shown quite capable of being, at least fiscally. Even I, who has always voted either PC or Alliance/Reform, am seriously considering voting Liberal next election. Time will tell though, I'll have to wait and see what the issues are and the stances by various Parties/candidates.

I am not so sure about the moving right. If he does, he can open a lot of space for the NDP, you now how Jack Layton always goes on about the right being united under Martin and all that stuff. I think he'll moderate himself a lot, try to stay close to the centre in order to attract the most people, yet still neutralize both the NDP and the CPC.

But as you say, we'll have to wait and see. One thing I expect of him is to finally say where he stands on various issues, instead of all these vague statements and empty language over the past 2 years.

Brison joins Liberal Party

Perhaps a sign of Martin moving the Liberals to the fiscal Right.

The IMF expressed concerns over a recent dramatic increase in Federal Government spending, but Martin made some comments last night concerning Fiscal Conservatism last night(that link doesn't really cover it indepth though, just mentions it).

I don't know where he stands on the issue, but I wouldn't be surprised if he nixes the Gun Registry based on what he has said about review of Programs and their cost. I'm getting ahead of the game though, so. ;)

Wasn't Brison touted as one of the potential leaders of the new conservatives?

I predict that the liberals will be so strong in the next election that even if all the other parties merge, they still won't win. Even in Quebec, where the Bloc ususally has a lot of seats, there is a possibility of seeing a full liberal victory.

Just wondering what 'Conservative' means to a Canadian. Most Canadians I know would call Berkeley a fundamentalist stronghold. :)

Same thing it means in the modern, civilized states. ;)

Sort of. I find Canadian Conservatives to be mostly Fiscal Conservatives, Center-->slightly Left on Social issues. There are a few who would fit right in with a US Republican, but those are rather rare. That's how I see it anyway.

That is a very distinct possibility.
