Canada withheld tax on dividends, can I get it back?

I own stock in a company that was bought by a Canadian company last year and they have started withholding Canadian taxes on the dividends. How can I go about getting some or all of this back? I'm a US citizen and qualified to get a full refund on the US taxes that were also withheld on the dividends.

You might want to search the CCRA website because I'm not 100% certain. But I think Canada and the U.S. have agreements where they allow eachother to withhold reduced levels of taxes on dividends to eachother's citizens. I would assume that if your Canadian sources of income were under the taxable rate, you could qualify to be get a full refund.

Since you're a US resident I'm pretty darn sure that the CAN/US tax treaty allows you to pay taxes on Can income (that is what this is now right?) at a US rate, so you should be ok. Don't ask me how to get it back but I'm fairly sure you can.

It was actually a lower amount than the US taxes, the rate looked to be about half. But it's still too much to not try and get back. It's bank stock and ever since they were bought out dealing with them has become more of a headache, and now they are making my taxes a headache too.
