OTTAWA, Canada (Reuters) -- Canadian Member of Parliament Carolyn Parrish had said she hated "damned Americans" and called them bastards in the run-up to the Iraq war.

So is this what Canadians think about America, or is Canada so liberal they live in a dream world?

I would think calling somone an Idiot in casual conversation would be a bit rude!

Parrish, who had to apologize for her "bastards" remarks last year, at first denied using the word idiots, and when reporters pointed out they had her remarks on tape, she said: "I don't mean Americans are idiots."

Most Americans are idiots. Most people are. Have you ever talked to people?

Theres a long discussion about this in Offtopic. I've said most of what I have to say there.

All I'll add is Coalition of the Wise huh? Yeah I don't think she'll be allowed into that one ;)

She doesn't seem very "wise" in using that sort of language. She's entitiled to her opinion but might consider not using blanket generalizations to describe Americans. I presume she doesn't approve of Bush policies. Obviously, not all Americans support those policies. She ought to realize that.

I'm inclined to agree with you on the 'most people' part. People in general are idiots.

There's a thread on this in ATOT as well.

She should have been fired last time. This time she chose some inflammatory words; but she's talking about a specific issue (missile defence).

I for one agree with the position, if not the language.

This is what happens when you put a mental midget in the White House and all his handlers are warmongering corporate goons. Not surprised at all. If the majority of Americans support Bush, then we ARE idiots. I have faith that Nov 2nd will help us with our international standing however...

We can only hope Kerry's idiots are more numerous than Bush's idiots on Nov. 2.

She will probably be re-elected forever now.

That is very likely true. I'm not sure where she is based from, but we just had an election in June so she was elected already after her first remarks.

Though most Canadians wouldn't agree with her on her more controversial statements, most certainly agree with her on the issue of Iraq and of Bush's "leadership".

It was these issues that I believe had a major impact on the outcome of the recent election. The Conservative Party was favoured to win at the begining of the Campaign, but Steve Harper(leader of the Conservative Party) had made statements leading up to the Iraq War that Canada should have joined the Coalition and that Canadians were derelict in refusing to do so. During the Campaign he tried to downplay those comments, but the damage was done and the Conservatives lost too much support to oust the Liberal Party.

Bush is the Moron and Idiot, I'm sorry that some lay blame on the whole country though. :(

This is nothing new---particularly when this country isn't living up to its ideals. Iraq has caused a general rise in anti-Americanism throughout the world. I do hope we show the world they are wrong by getting Bush and the gang out of Washington in NOvemeber---If we don't expect this hate of America to continue--By the way, they are wrong and we are right. We are the best people in the world--better then anyone else. God has picked us to create his City on the Hill ---and so on etc.

God knows I won't be able to sleep at night until both the Canadians and the French are back on good terms with America.

I don't know how on Earth America has made it this long without being forcefully volunteered to revolve around those two centers of the universe.

No where in America's sovereignty have they been granted permision do things that the rest of the world disapproves of.

Personally, I don't think that she was trying in any way to typify Americans as idiots, just those that support the missle defence proposal. I saw the insult as being directed as much to the pro-missile supporters in Canada as much as the Bush administration.

Though after the "Bastards" comment, I can see why few would be willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.

For those that want her fired, she can't be. She's an elected MP, not a staff member. I doubt you would advocate that every congressman who has said something retarded should be drummed from their party.

Unless you wanted 3rd and 4th parties to form the majority.

There's alot of American idiots. I talk to alot of them everyday. Then again, there's an equal number of idiot Canadians out there that I've been unfortunate enough to encounter.

I am American. Alas, many of us our morons. (Look around at this board for example). It's the natural consequence of the neo-social darwinist agenda to strip education in the states. The Red States have been particularly hard hit. Apparently, many think the bible is a subsitute for a biology textbook. Congratulations Republicans, you have succeeded.
