US dropped 598k jobs in Jan, about 10-15% more than forcasted by the useless forcasters. Stock market is up big time today. Lol. Canada has a pop of about 1/9th the US but dropped almost 1/4 as many jobs. Employment in US and Canada are about on par.

Can dollar is slightly strengthening in the last week, now at $1.22 per US. I like it when it gets weak because I still have Canadian debt :(

Yep, pretty horrible numbers for Canada and I thought the ~70k last month was outrageous. Considering that the unemployment rate here is now at 7.2 and 7.8 in the US, I'd say the months ahead will be just as bad as today.

That UK line defies the future. I think the UK is sitting on a keg of nitroglycerin.

Canada posts record monthly job losses

Statscan said the drop in employment was most pronounced in manufacturing, - in particular the auto sector - where the net loss totalled 101,000. There were declines in most other industries. The only sector posting a notable gain was health care and social assistance, where employment increased by 31,000.

The single-month record loss was just over three times the consensus estimate of 40,000 among Bay Street economists. StatsCan released adjusted numbers that show the economy lost 63,000 jobs and 20,000 jobs, respectively, in November and December.

Figures that it was the auto sector that was responsible for the vast majority of those jobs. And way to majorly mess up an estimate, Bay Street!

These employment forecasters cannot predict whether a dump will be sweet or sour.

That does change the figures, basically makes them look better, I think.
