Canada - Laws pertaining to knives

I've heard that 8" is the longest blade you can legally carry in Canada. Upon research, I've found that some are saying there is no actual law limiting the length, only that switchblades and similar knives aren't allowed.

So..would anyone happen to know what I could get away with carrying?

isn't 42" a bit long, or is that some type of normal sword length

EDIT: shit, I get it, sorry

It sounds small, until you realize that 8 US inches is like 20 Canadian inches... and growing! :)
