Well there have been a few cases where canadian citizens have been in the us and arrested on terrorism charges and deported without telling the canadian government till after it has been done. This warning is a good idea for now cause you never know when it will happen again.

I live in an area that is heavily populated with Canadian tourists. I have seen or heard nothing of the sort....I think a travel advisory may be blowing it out of proportion a little bit. Anyway, would you need a travel advisory if you were Iraqi or Syrian to think that maybe you are being watched post 9-11. Right or wrong..don't blame me, it's just the world we live in now.

Isn't it because of that one individual who had dual citizenship, Syrian and Canadian. The US deported him to Syria rather than Canada where he had been living since 1972, and his family hadn't heard from him since.
From what I have gathered, the US is no longer deporting individuals, rather they are photographing them and taking their fingerprints. So unless you have something to hide, or expect to be involved in illegal activity in the future you needn't worry.
Nonetheless, a travel advisory should be expected when such a change in policy is made.

The Canadian government issued a travel advisory this week with a twist: It suggests citizens born in Iraq, Syria and other countries targeted by U.S. anti-terrorism policies consider avoiding travel to the United States.

Maybe if we ask Canada nicely, the U.S. can get Saudi Arabia added to the persona non grata list.
