Can your job force you to take a lunch?

I can see this being really annoying. Sometimes you just get into a groove and are making great time. A break would disrupt your flow of work and make you lose your momentum.

Yeah, I probably have to do that. The other wacked out thing is that they are trying to force us to take them at scheduled times - but the times don't make any sense. I worked an 11am-9pm shift and I was 'required' to take my break from 12:00-12:30pm. At least force me to take it a 4pm or something reasonable

What kind of job do you have?

Yeah, where I work if we don't take our break it's a good possibility the manager on-duty will be fired. They just want to make sure employees are getting the breaks and down-time they need during the workday.

What I like to do during my lunch break is to eat lunch. Perhaps that is something you should consider?

This is usually a good idea. The human body is a machine that runs on energy (proteins, carbohydrates, and fats) and nutrients (vitamins, minerals, etc), and supplying the body with needed food will help to prevent fatigue, malnourishment, and in extreme cases, death.

Hmmm...your theories interest me and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter

It's mandatory in CA. One day, I didn't take lunch and the head of HR overheard the conversation. She freaked out and begged me to take one. She glared at my boss as she walked by, even though he had nothing to do with it.

Yea, my boss freaked out when I told her I didn't take lunch one day.

If you are non-exempt you have to take a lunch. I'm exempt, and no one cares if I have lunch or not!!! But I like it that way 🙂

There are really no labor laws for Michigan for those over 18. I would like to exercise but 30 min seems a bit short to drive to the gym, workout, shower and drive back. I would get about 5 min of workout time

-I work for a company that does in home PC, Networking and TV services and installations

Pushups / Situps / Other non-gym requiring exercises? Eat lunch at work instead of home? Either way you should be able to do something you were normally doing at home during those 30 minutes thereby negating any possible lost time.

sigh... the wonders of upper management.

Im not actually sure what the policy is for lunch where I work.

I usually just bring one to work with me, and it takes me like 5 minutes to eat it, then I continue with my work. That way I get lunch without actually having to extend my day at all.

if you work over 6 hours, you have to take lunch. i just work my 8 hours, add in a fake lunch on my timecard, and have my final "out" time be 30 minutes later than it really was. that way everyone is happy.

It's a federal law.
