Can You Work With Percentages?

I'm taking Chem 100 because I still need to get some Gen. Ed. stuff out of the way. We had a lab tonight. There was a question on the lab where you had to use some percentages. What you had to figure out was essentially x is what percent of y? and if you have 10y how much x do you have?

We worked as pairs and there were two groups that could not figure it out. I realize that it's Chem 100 and it's just for people who want some easy credits or people who have no real hope of graduating but isn't this the kind of thing you should know before you leave middle school?

My Chem 101 class was sad. People were so bad at doing the calculations, I couldn't believe it. I think that four of us passed. I had a 107.
