Can you use Lexmark inkjet cartridges in Dell printers?

I have a debate with a friend saying that I read somewhere this is not possible, but he says you can do it. HRRRRRRRMMMMm......anyone???

Lexmark has OEM's their inkjet printers to others in the past (Brother and Samsung for 2), and in those cases they molded in "keys" in the cap of the cartridge so that they were not interchangeable (unless you cut the plastic up) - I don't know if this is the case for the dell's or not.

I just asked my brother. He was tech-support for Lexmark and Dell for a while.

His reply...

maybe, probably, i dunno

I then asked him if Lexmark ever made Printers for Dell. I know they made them for Compaq...

they do make dell printers but i dunno if they changed the carts, they made kodak printers too but lexmark carts wouldnt fit in them, i quit just before the dell crap came out

Well, other than calling them up, thats the closest I can get to a direct answer.

I definitely know that Lexmark is making inkjets and laser printers for Dell now.
