can you use generic ink with canon printers anymore?

Just curious. I remember seeing a thread a while back about canon no longer using generic ink cartridges as replacements but then I never heard anything mentioned on it again.

Simple way to find out. Go to a site that sells replacement cartridges and see if they have a generic replacement available.
