can you use a thumb drive to update mobo bios inplace of floppy

Will a thumb drive work as well as a floppy drive for this need?

If you I have a 256mg flash drive...I would I set it up

You *should* be able to boot from it, copy whatever files need to go to the floppy to the root of the thumb drive.

Change the first BIOS boot option to USB-HDD or similar.
