Can you use a stock Duron HS/Fan on an XP?

Probably. The newer XP CPUs tend to be cooler than some of the older Duron chips. Temps might be a bit high but they should be well within the correct operating range.

loopy, are you overclocking on a budget? :D

No, I don't think it's a good idea to use that HSF on a Barton 2600+.

According to the AMD technical documents, the maximum thermal power of a Duron 800MHz and Barton 2600+ is 27.4W and 68.3W respectively.

The stock HSF's that comes with AMD or Intel processors don't usually have much headroom in them, so I don't think it's a good idea to put on the Duron HSF on a Barton 2600+.

Hmmm...
Thanks for the info. Actually, I am going to upgrade my moms' computer, and my bro from CA got a Frys combo for her, and shipped it to her house (in Pennsylvania). I'm going to have to go to her house to install it, and all I have laying around is an old retail Duron HSF that I never used.
Thanks again!
