I was looking at purchasing a Compaq iPaq 3975 PocketPC, which is running Pocket PC 2002. Is it possible to upgrade this to the newer 2003 flavor?

I was under the impression that you could not upgrade the Windows Palm OS, but then noticed this auction on ebay(questionable - as the seller is from Belgium).

So can this be done?

Has anyone upgraded this OS in a legit manner? Or is this considered an OS hack in order to perform?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If the manufacturer of the device releases an update for it such as PocketPC 2003 then yes. But I took a look at HP/Compaq's website and that particular model can not be upgraded to PocketPC 2003.

EDIT: That auction may be legit. Let me look a bit more at the site.

EDIT: I stand corrected HP does provide an update for that series of Pocket PC to PocketPC 2003. They sell it on their site here: http://www.hp.com/sbso/special/ppc_upgrade.html although with them you're looking at a $30 upgrade. So long as the seller is selling a US upgrade and not one for overseas (ones for overseas won't always work in the US models) then that looks like a good price.
