Can you turn off hard drives not in use?

I mean just temporary. See, my SATA Seagate Hard Drive isnt doing too well, and I want to use it as little as possible. Is there a way to just turn it off while on my PC so that I dont accidentally use it? I'll have to use it one last time when backing up all my data, but until then, I dont want to touch the drive (I gotta put in two other ide hard drives from my old PC into the PC im using now before I can do that).

Thanks in advance 🙂

I'd like to know the answer to this as well!! Windows XP power management let you turn off all hard drives, but I'm not sure about individual drives......
