can you turn a pci wireless card into a wireless router of sorts?

access point just died, i have a pci wireless card... can i put that in a xp box and run some sort of software so it acts like an access point with ssid, wep etc..?

Yeah, the driver that comes with the card should allow you to operate it in infrastructure or ad-hoc mode, there shouldn't be any additional software necessary.
