Can you transcribe machine dictation? (what does this mean??)

Filling out a job application, and this is asked. Is not related to the company so I don't understand what this means. A joke of some sort?

It means that as you listen to a voice recording, you type out the words to create a typed document. It is not much used now, but dictation by managers and professionals used to be the way that they would write letters that their sexitaries typed.

Doctors, lawyers and other professinals often used this to add notes to files.
