I'm new with AMD processors. I just bought a used AMD cpu...How do I know if it's really a retail version and not the oem one aside fm the fact that the retail version comes with stock/factory heat sink and fan...Can you tell it thru the serial no in the cpu? Thanks for the input.:)

Generally the retail AMD chips will have a sticker on them that voids the warranty if removed. Also retail chips come with the retail heatsink, while OEM chips do not come with a heatsink.

I recently had to RMA my Retail Processor with AMD. The only important piece of hardware and information that they need is the AMD labled Heatsink Fan that comes with the CPU. They didn't even need my processor serial number, they just asked for the serial number marked on my HSF. The CSR I spoke to told me that if you don't have the AMD branded HSF with serial, you could be out of luck.

Luckily I kept it. Getting an 1800+ replacement in the mail for my blown 1700+. Yippie!:D
