Can you tell me what this says?

My friend is on a treasure hunt and recently got an envelope with very, very small writing on it. We decoded most of it, but there is one part that we can't read. We know it stands alone (is not part of another word), but can't seem to figure out what it says. If you could take a look and tell me what you think it might say, I'd really appreciate it.

Don't be shy; please make your suggestion no matter how silly you think it is.

To give you some sort of context, the rest of the message says (we think):

"To find the clue you will have to study hard <illegible portion> often distracted is your encounter"

Here's the link to the image

Thanks a lot!

This is typed and the picture was taken a 50x magnification.

Thanks for the suggestions; keep them coming.

Thats what I see. I believe the letter before that shoudl be a "U" also because thats the only reason for such a large gap between letters.

That's possible. I hadn't thought about that. The only thing is, most of the words are like this and took a lot of time to decode.

After looking at this, i would agree with GUN

looks typed with a typewriter, or perhaps printed with a times news roman font. It would seem that the letters have been double printed, or printed with a slight overtone. In other words, the last letter is an N, but it looks like IN where the I is an overtone to the left of the N, possible that the typewriter slipped, or was done purposfully.

I will pass it along and see what others think. I might suggest doing this. . .

putting it in photoshop and edging it to a max degree to see if you can grey scale and bring out some depth.

I played with it and I see UN being almost certain, the first is iffy it could be a lowercase G, but what case was the rest of it in? if you could give us an example of the rest of it, may be easier to ascertain

Thanks. We tried that but couldn't seem to do anything that really made the text clearer.

Also, I don't think it says gUN because every letter is capitalized. There are a FEW more images of text here (Just scroll down).

And just so you guys know, I'm 99% positive that was printed from a computer. A typewriter would have been too much of a hassle and couldn't have done the other non-clue graphics on the envelope.
