can you tan with UV index 5?

No, not really... I'm up here in UConn and during the warm season when I play basketball outside after classes I only tan when there's a UV of 6 or higher... 5 really won't do much for ya, sorry.

Ah, well, it depends on how fair your skin is.

My skin isn't that fair, but I walk every day, and I find that I'm tanning earlier and earlier every year. By mid/late April I've already got a tan, and I live in the Boston area.

My dermatologist told me I should wear sunscreen from May-Sept even though I usually walk in the morning when the UV rating isn't that high.

skin is very fair but i have been occassionally fake tanning which is enough to make me look like a normal white person and stop people from saying "excuse me if you don't mind me asking, how are you so white?" :D

Umm, as far as I know, the UV index has nothing to do with tanning. It's a warning for skin cancer and how long until you'll burn.

Why would you want to Tan. It's the stupidest thing you can do to your skin. You'll turn into a wrinkled up turnip.
