Can you talk down a TV price at Best Buy?

Has anyone successfully talked down a TV price at Best Buy? Right now I'm looking at a Sony KV-34HS420 HDTV. Best Buy lists it for $1439, and I have a 10% off coupon this weekend, bringing the price to $1299. Any chance I could get the price even lower? If so, what's a reasonable discount to ask for?

Offering to get the extended warranty is about the only way.

I seriously doubt it. I don't think salespeople even have the ability to lower a price.

I talked with one of the salesmen and got my 32" Sony HDTV dropped from $999 to $875. So, I guess it's possible, just not probable.

they wont budge. Take their add to circuit and have them price match it. Tell them you want the warranty and see if they give you a better deal. Then if you don't want the warranty, go back and cancel the warranty.

"4 year Performance Service Plan" was offered for $199 on the TV. Not sure if it's worth it, though.

the only way BB is authorized to change the price that is listed in the computer is if the item is open box

they should on a deal like this. If not, sears will for sure. The TV market is flooded. Heck even CrapUSA is going to start selling Sonys.

Looks like I'll try Circuit City or Sears to see if I can get a pricematch deal going.

You'll have a much better shot at Sears. Technically speaking, its against CC policy to pricematch coupons but you may find a department manager willing to work with you and ONLY if your buying city advantage protection plan.

Since sears works on commission, you'll likely have a much better shot PM'ing.

FYI...Compusa (albeit crappy), will lower the price on most things if you get a warranty. Ive seen up to $200 dropped off the price because people spring for the warranty (but normally its about $50 or $100, depending on which warranty you get). So you get the discount and the warranty, then return the warranty the next day and your good to go.

I've done it too, works even better w open box, & I'll add BB & CC.

Do not hesitate to ask for a discount, got them on open box and brand new, specially w higher price items. If they don't do it, don't feel bad, maybe even try another store.

My friend was able to talk down the price on a hdtv projection 46" by pointing out "scratches" on screen.

Scratches were barely visible to begin with. Turned on, you can't see them at all.

There's ways to do it. I can get all best buy TVs at 5% above margin from best buy...

go to sears...last time we bought a tv there we got it down from 1799 to 1599 with a free matching stand...
