The "funny" thing is that when the British Navy started sucking on limes (hence, "Limies") to combat scruvy at the advice of a brilliant physician, this was a miracle treatment--I believe this was discovered in the 18th/19th century?
But when WW1, or maybe it was WW2 rolled around, limes were scarce and extremely expensive--or anyway they were hard to come by. Lemons were suggested as an equal alternative, without the lost knowledge that the vitamin C complement was greatly reduced when compared to Limes. As a result, scurvy returned in full force for quite some time.
yeah, we are screwed.
